Centerstone Research Institute (CRI), a unique not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving mental healthcare through research and information technology, announced that three of its staff members will be presenting at the 5th annual Open Minds Institute for Behavioral Health and Informatics. The conference, which brings together behavioral healthcare leaders to discuss changes in technology that are allowing the creation of new service delivery models and improved business operations in the field, will be held October 14-16 at the Sheraton Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia.

Dennis Morrison, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of CRI, will deliver the event's closing plenary address on Friday, October 16 from 11:15 am - 12:45 pm. In his speech titled, 'Informatics, Effectiveness, & Cost: How Cost Effectiveness Data Will Shape the Future of the Behavioral Health Field,' he will discuss how cost effectiveness data is changing the future of the behavioral health field. Dr. Morrison will examine the widespread availability of data - and the informatics tools to evaluate data - and how they will change the way treatment effectiveness is assessed within a new decision-making paradigm.

Thomas W. Doub, Ph.D., Chief Operating Officer of CRI, and Casey Bennett, MA, CRI Data Architect, will participate in a panel discussion titled, 'Using Informatics to Gather Predictive Information and Select Optimal Clinical Practices.' The panel discussion, which will be held on Friday, October 16 from 9:30-11 a.m., will examine how technology can be used to craft strategic change and drive performance, and how data is used to predict and plan for the possibilities to further enhance operations and care delivery. Dr. Doub and Mr. Bennett will be joined on the panel by George DelGrosso, Executive Director of the Colorado Behavioral Healthcare Council and Joseph P. Naughton-Travers, Ed.M., Senior Associate at OPEN MINDS (see also Behavior).

The annual Open Minds Institute for Behavioral Health and Informatics conference is a leading industry-wide gathering of public and private system executives, academic researchers, clinical professionals, policymakers, and administrators devoted to exploring the future of the application of information and information technology in the behavioral health and social service field. Some of the topics set to be covered at this year's event include emerging technologies, The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and the influence of the Internet and social marketing on behavioral healthcare.
